Les Miserables- Musical/ LDN Weekend

Day one: just touched down in London town.

In October 2018 me and my aunt went on a weekend theatre break to London. Taking only 50 minutes on the train from where we live, London is perfect for a short break!

We stayed at the Royal Cambridge Hotel in the Paddington area and we got a great deal though Booking.com. The staff were really helpful and friendly and breakfast was included in the price too. The hotel room and bathroom were VERY small, however was perfect for us spending such little time in it.

Dropping our cases off at the hotel early, we spent the late morning/ early afternoon shopping and having a lovely meal in a pub just behind Leicester Square, it was great food and very quiet as it wasn’t in the main tourist area. With a short walk through Leicester sqaure and China Town we were at the theatre ready to see Les Miserables.

Do you hear the people sing.

Les Mis is the longest running musical, situated at the Queens theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue. The seats we had were great (Dress Circle row E) we could see the whole set very clearly.

The cast were brilliant, and told the story so well. I wanted to see this musical for so long and it did not disappoint! The staging was very clever having a revolve so there was never a moment the stage was empty. After the fantastic musical we took a trip across the road to Doughnut time where we bought some very delicious treats. We made our way back to Paddington where we picked up some takeaway food and had a chilled night in out hotel room watching Strictly and XFactor.

Day two: feed the birds.

The next day was a sightseeing day (with me being the tour guide) as shops in London don’t open until around 11.30am. We took the tube to St Paul’s where we recited Mary Poppins and walked our way from there across the millennium Bridge and along southbank towards the London Eye.

At the millennium Bridge there were some new statues of Harry Potter wands, celebrating JK Rowlings Lumos charity. The wands lit up in the evening which would have been great to see.

Once we reached the other end of Westminster Bridge we took the tube to piccadilly circus and walked towards the shops for a last minute look around. We found another quiet pub where we had a lovely roast dinner, situated on a side street behind Oxford Street. Once finished we made our way back to the hotel, collected our things and made our way home.
